Power Factor Test Sets provide a comprehensive ac insulation diagnostic test for high voltage apparatus, such as transformers, bushings, circuit breakers, cables, lightning arrestors and rotating machinery. Insulation power factor tests are used to measure dielectric losses, which relate the wetness, dryness or deterioration of insulation. Both factory and field testing are performed to verify the insulation integrity of substation transformers. The results of overall power factor tests on power transformers reflect the insulation condition of the windings, barriers, tap changers, bushings and oil. Measured quantities include voltage, current, power (loss), power factor, dissipation factor and capacitance.
