Interest in blue-green algae monitoring is growing due to the problems some species can present. Blue-green algae (a. k. a. cyanobacteria) can produce toxins and compounds that deteriorate the quality of drinking water. They may also represent the most abundant primary producer in ecosystem studies. YSI's Freshwater 6131 Phycocyanin Blue-Green Algae sensor monitors algal populations at natural levels, providing an early warning for bloom conditions. The BGA-PC sensor is not susceptible to potential interference from chlorophyll, turbidity and dissolved organics. The integrated wiping system prevents fouling in the harshest environments. This sensor will integrate with YSI sondes that have an optical port, including: 600OMS v2, 6820 v2 & 6920 v2, 6600 v2 & 6600EDS v2.
